Jeremiah's Birthday

Jeremiah celebrated his 34th birthday on December 23rd. It ended up being kind of a crazy day. We had planned on doing Sub for Santa with 2 other families for a struggling family in our ward, and had planned on getting together the morning of the 24th to put everything together and take it over. Well, I got a call from our Bishop on the 23rd who said he had just talked to the father of this family and he said that their plans to stay home for Christmas had changed. I guess the mom's grandmother had died and they had gone down for the funeral and decided to stay their for Christmas. The dad said he was leaving to join his family after work that night (the 23rd).

Well, needless to say it was a bit of a whirlwind trying to get all the stuff together, wrapped and the families together to go deliver it! We didn't have any idea when the dad was coming home from work, but with everyone's schedules we weren't able to get the stuff over there until about 5:15. We were all packed into one van and I jumped out to help the kids carry everything to the door. Right as the kids were getting up there the dad pulled up! They hurried and left the gifts and we all dived into the car and drove away as fast as we could! I don't know if he recognized me or not, but it was pretty crazy. As we drove home we discovered that in all the commotion, one of the little girls had forgotten to put her present by the door! She was still carrying it! Jeremiah had just gotten home from work when we pulled up, so he and the kids went back to deliver what we thought was the last gift.

Well, after we'd been home 15 or 20 minutes we remembered that we had bought a package of batteries to go with some of the toys we bought and that we had forgotten to include that on the first trip. So, once again we rushed to get it wrapped and Jeremiah headed over with the boys to deliver what we thought was for sure the last gift before the dad left town.

After they had gotten home, taken off their shoes and settled down to relax and wait for the pizza to cook we realized again that there were some presents we had forgotten! We remembered all the exciting toys we had bought, but I had also got each of the kids a copy of the illustrated scriptures from the Distribution Center, and in all the rush I had completely forgotten about them! We all laughed so hard and wondered what this guy must be thinking to have his doorbell ringing every 15 minutes! So once again they bundled up and delivered the final set of presents! They loved it though--even if it did make for kind of a crazy birthday for Jeremiah!

We did finally get to celebrate though. He got a Blue Ray disc player and we watched our first ever high-def movie...."Night of the Museum 2"!
